Read the October 2025 edition of EMA Today
Welcome to the October 2025 edition of EMA Today, the quarterly e-newsletter from the East Midlands Alliance for Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Autism for Alliance colleagues, stakeholders and the wider healthcare community.
In this issue, we bring you the latest updates, achievements, and developments from across the East Midlands, including highlights from our second annual meeting for senior leaders where we reflected on our progress as an Alliance and discussed the challenges ahead for mental health services in the region.
We are pleased to bring you news of two new mental health units opening at Kingsway Hospital in Derbyshire and a new 12-bed specialised eating disorder ward has also opened in Shipley. These additions mark a significant expansion in inpatient care provision and demonstrate our commitment to improving access to high-quality services across the region. We are also celebrating the success of the Waterlily programme, co-ordinated by the East Midlands Adult Eating Disorder Provider Collaborative, which recently won the Community Initiative Award at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards. In addition, our CAMHS Collaborative has been nominated for a HSJ Award for leading the transformation of children and young people's mental health services in the East Midlands.
Also in this edition, you can watch Dr Girish Kunigiri, Chief Medical Officer at Lincolnshire NHS Foundation Trust take on our 60 Second Showcase.
