EMA launch Mental Health Act Workshops with Weightmans LLP

The East Midlands Alliance has launched a Mental Health Act Workshops Programme, which will run throughout 2025, delivered by Weightmans LLP and available to all partners across the region.
The purpose of the programme is to help explore the key aspects of the Mental Health Act reform 2025 and how this impacts on services and patient care. The sessions are available to all colleagues working in mental health across the region, this a co-ordinated approach to ensure consistency for all EMA colleagues. The programme launched in June.
The first 7 sessions, which were mostly delivered online, focussed on:
- Adult Eating Disorders
- Mental Health Reform part 1 update
- Person-centred care and considerations
- Mental Health detention and statutory forms
- Mental capacity and the Court of Protection
- Perinatal mental health
- CAMHS and detention (in person)
Upcoming sessions from September include:
- CAMHS and eating disorders for under 18s
- Digital considerations: AI technology, risk, regulation
- Part III - patients and the law (in person)
- First-Tier Tribunal - procedural matters
- Part IV of Mental Health Act - appropriate treatment and the role of professionals
- Perinatal mental health (in person)
- Complex presentations of veterans and related issues
- Adult safeguarding and the law
- First-Tier Tribunal masterclass - mock tribunal (in person)
- Mental Health Act reform part 2 update
The training has been designed to complement the Mental Health Act training that is provided internally by partners, ensuring best practice and a unified approach. The specialist advice and support provided by Weightmans ensures that colleagues have the knowledge and expertise needed to continue to make the right decisions and to provide the best care possible to patients across the East Midlands.
